Laptop Repair Guide - Easy Laptop Hard Drive Replacement
Replacing your hard drive can be a tedious task. However, in order to make it easy, you can follow the steps below:
1. Choose The Correct Size and Type
Before replacing the hard drive, you must have a new drive ready. Remember to choose the correct one because they have few types. Check your hard disk connector type before buying.
The size is also important. Don't go buying a PC hard disk for your laptop.
2. Always Backup Your Files
Remember to backup your files before replacing the hard drive. If you can clone it, it's better. Use cloning software to do so.
If you can't clone it, you have to copy your data manually either by copying it to DVDs or other external drive.
3. Remove Your Old Hard Disk
Remove your old hard drive by turning your laptop upside down and use the appropriate screwdriver. Take out the laptop battery to gain access into the internal hardware.
Sometimes, you will need to remove all the covers in order for you to have access into the internal hardware.
Remember to do this gently. If you feel it's hard to take it off. Don't force it. Check if you've left any screws or if you're doing it the wrong way. If you damaged the connector, it will become unusable.
4. Install The New Drive
After removing the old hard disk, you should be able to install the new drive. Do it slowly to prevent any damage to the connector.
5. Configure Your New Hard Disk
Put all the screws back in and everything back, then you can start configuring your new hard drive. The BIOS should automatically detect the new hard drive. Just follow the on-screen instruction and you should be okay. Install your operating system (OS) and you're good to go.
