If you are doing computing tasks that require a larger display, then it is best to buy a laptop as to trying to view reports on a netbook may prove hard to read. But if you are user then to just surf the web, check emails and chat with family and friends online, then a netbook is ideal. A netbook is great for students because of its small size, it can travel with you from lecture to lecture.
The decision to buy either a netbook or laptop is down to what you want to use the device for and whether it meets your budget requirements. You do not necessarily want to overspend and buy something that does not do everything you required.
